Unbelievably, “Brave” is Pixar’s first approximation of what a Walt Disney-helmed fairy tale might be in the 21st century… its universal successes should please the most discerning of filmgoers because it’s a surprisingly nostalgic and dizzyingly creative spin on Disney fairly tales of the past.

Other New Releases:

There’s no heft to the material – only mindless violence – and Blake Lively is absolutely dreadful, but there’s some genuine tension and excitement at times, particularly during the movie’s midsection. If Stone can use “Savages” as a springboard to get back to bigger and loftier things, its reputation might grow in the years to come. Is this his return to form? Not quite. Not yet.

Rating: ★★ 1/2 out of ★★★★★ (Mediocre)

The amount of dead air in “The Watch” is almost staggering. Watching the stars of “Zoolander” and “Wedding Crashers” and “Superbad” go minutes on end without providing a single laugh isn’t just disappointing – it’s borderline uncomfortable. The whole endeavor comes across as a banal family-friendly film that was hastily re-written to be raunchy, which may not be far from the truth… an incompetent mess.
